Member News – Passings

It is, with great sadness to announce the passing of two B.C. colleagues. On behalf of Board, Staff and Membership of the BC Touring Council our condolences to family, working colleagues and friends.

Monique Dubois of the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook, B.C. and her partner Rex were involved in a Road Traffic Accident and both succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Monique had a unique vision for the direction of the growth of Key City Theatre and used her considerable talents to see those programmes come into being. Her mandate was to expose Kootenay audiences to an eclectic mix of entertainment genres and in this she was successful. Her areas of interest were not solely confined to Theatre productions and working with the local Arts groups, she co-ordinated Art Shows in the Theatre’s Gallery, with Artist Receptions for the opening of each show. As an accomplished photographer in her own right, her work has been used in promotional and marketing material for Theatre productions, and shown as a vibrant portfolio of past events on the Theatre’s lobby monitors. Monique was a strong, vibrant personality with a passion for the Arts and she will be missed.

West Coast theatre veteran David Ross, co-founder of Newfoundland's Rising Tide Theatre and Western Canada Theatre's long-time artistic chief, passed away on Sunday March 29th in Kamloops, B.C. after a battle with cancer. Ross led the Kamloops-based Western Canada Theatre for more than two decades as its artistic producer. Under his tenure, the company doubled its size, built a second theatre and produced more than 100 plays, including co-productions with fellow troupes in B.C. and Alberta.
Besides his regular theatre world jobs, Ross served on a host of wider committees and arts groups, including several terms on the B.C. Arts Council and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres.
