9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Let's Get Married: Pixels and Promotion
John McLachlan - Gliss Media
[ for presenters and artist/agents ]
A "press kit" used to be a simple thing and most people knew what went into one: a black and white glossy, bio, reviews, tech sheet etc. It all got printed on paper and was sent off for the presenter to use when promoting the show. End of story! But then along came personal computers and the Internet and though it should have become simpler, it's actually gotten more confusing when it comes to making sure all the materials are there. Both presenters and
artists/agents now need to know a lot more technical details than ever before.
The workshop will look at some nuts and bolts issues such as:
What should be included in a modern-day press kit?
How should it be made available?
What formats of image files are needed?
What is a JPEG, TIFF or EPS file and why should you care?
What do they mean when they talk about "resolution"?
Materials for the Web or print and how they have different needs.
Workshop participants will be encouraged to share their success stories (and failures) by bringing their materials, web addresses, or anecdotes. Just like getting married, a successful promotion campaign means knowing what both parties need and want to make a happy relationship that results in a wonderful experience (the performance)

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
eyeGo - To The Arts
Cheryl Ewing - Brava
EyeGo is an innovative program where high school students can experience the arts at a price they can afford. It is designed to encourage secondary school students to attend performances in the arts. Come to hear about this exciting program and learn how you too can take advantage of this national marketing program.

Working Effectively With Communities
Roopchand Seebaran, Professor Emeritus,
University of British Columbia School of Social Work and Family Studies
How do you know when you are doing effective community work? Do you have a conceptual map or compass to guide you, especially when you face tough dilemmas and challenges? This workshop will present a framework for effective community work focusing on the various tasks, processes, and roles of the worker. It will include a set of guiding principles that will be useful for a range of staff and volunteers in the arts community. Participants will be encouraged to share some of their rich experiences, and the lessons learned from the challenges and issues they have faced.

Veteran showcase attendees Bronwen Sutherland and Ian Forsyth will walk potential showcasers through the process of performing for fifteen or twenty minutes to a crowd of people who just may be your next employer. Using a proven forensic performer methodology, workshoppers will see first hand how to achieve success on stage without really trying. It is CSI for the arts! (Cultural Success Investigations)

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
