Report on Touring through CPA and BCTC 2006-2007 marked the eighth consecutive year that the BC Touring Council has administered the Community Presenters Assistance program (CPA) on behalf of the British Columbia Arts Council. Fifty-four BC communities were awarded project grants to help them connect their audiences with the best of BC and Canadian performing artists. Program Changes Following review and recommendations in 2007, Diverse Collaborations (Component B) may now be spearheaded by presenting community organizations as well as presenting facilities. In addition, Key Presenters (component C) who also propose diverse collaborations may apply for combined maximum funding of up to $10,000, an increase from the former $8,500. Community Presenters applying for Component A may apply for maximum funding of up to $4,500, an increase from the former $3,500. The Presenting Picture in 2006-2007 The number of performances reported by applicants across the province is holding steady; average fees for artists, however, showed a significant increase of 10% over 2005-2006 and are now at $3,035. Regionally, Vancouver Island, which includes all the gulf islands, has 14 presenters compared to the next strongest region, the South East, with 11 presenters. The South Central Region is making the most progress, however, with 91 performances among 6 community and 3 key presenters. Taken together, presenting organizations in BC run balanced budgets and
are not carrying significant accumulated deficits. They are using their
earned and granted revenues carefully. Organizations are also somewhat
optimistic about audiences, predicting growth from 112,482 attendees in
05-06 to 120,046 in 06-07 - an increase of 7,564 attendees. Statistics of the Final Report - 2000 to 2006 (pdf file - 245kb)
